How is smoking related to weight loss?

Is it a good plan to shed that extra weight by inviting unnecessary diseases through smoking? We must be mature enough to properly think before reaching out in the lane of fanatics who would have been ruining their life just to spill out their ounce. As if now reality is bitter and men’s are smoking out for fad to follow the latest trend. While woman are not lagging behind either they have been catching up with counterparts.
Our culture and society have become youth oriented and the grim reality is that youths considered those skin thin, sunken cheeks and prominent cheekbones to be beautiful. Women are trying hard to get in shape through various escapades and unnatural ways. The culture of thinness as we can say is making our society disease hazardous.
Unfortunately most of the people are subscribing to smoking in order to loose weight. Some prefer to go on diet while the new trend has got them to jump on the lethal way of smoking. Is it the only fastest way out to loose weight? In our opinion smoking is the most fatal which accelerates weight loss by killing appetite and leading quick thinness.
Loosing weight through smoking deadens the appetite and also burns the essential nutrients from the body which are needed for proper functioning of the body. By adding this habit in our daily regime may help in weight loss but on the cost of your health in the long run.
The catastrophic effects of smoking are greater than the results of obesity. Active smoking drastically reduces one to shed weight but the effects of smoking may even end life leading to other ailments. One should be thoughtful enough to choose the right way to achieve their goal, smoking can only deteriorate the condition by suppressing appetite and making you addict.
Passive smokers must also avoid the company of active smokers as it enhances the chances of disease equal to active goers. People may suffer heart attack, hypertension, low/high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney failure and throat cancers after weight lose through smoking. Smoking is never a good idea to back in shape rather eats healthy and plan out exercising regime to stay fit in shape.
Evidence from past and present researches manifests various cases where people suffered to meet their dreadful end because of smoking. To stop this try to spread awareness regarding smoking and make them understand that whom they may take as weight lose pill is actually a deadly pill.

Selenium 'does not prevent cancer

Taking a daily supplement of selenium will not ward off cancer, say experts who have reviewed the available evidence.

The Cochrane group looked at 55 studies that included over a million people.

Despite anecdotal reports of selenium's cancer powers, the investigators found no proof of a protective effect against skin cancer or prostate cancer.

And taking selenium over a long period of time could have toxic effects, they found.

Lead author Dr Gabriele Dennert, of the Institute for Transdisciplinary Health Research in Germany, said: "We could find no evidence to recommend regular intake of selenium supplements for cancer prevention in people whether or not they already have enough selenium."

Small amounts of selenium are essential for health and help build a strong immune system to fight off infections and diseases.

Many foods, including brazil nuts, tuna and pasta, contain selenium.

We know from many large studies that vitamin and mineral supplements far from being potent cancer-fighters are mostly ineffective in protecting against cancer, and can even increase the risk of cancer in some cases”

End Quote Cancer Research UK Spokesman

Debate has raged over whether taking supplements might provide the body with an extra boost.

And there have been numerous trials to see if it might reduce cancer risk. Some of these have found a benefit, while others have not.

But now experts say that there is enough evidence to confidently rule out selenium as a cancer preventative therapy.

Yinka Ebo, senior health information officer at Cancer Research UK, said: "We know from many large studies that vitamin and mineral supplements far from being potent cancer-fighters are mostly ineffective in protecting against cancer, and can even increase the risk of cancer in some cases.

"This review on selenium adds to this body of evidence and should give people good reason to think twice before relying on selenium supplements.

"The best way to get your full range of vitamins and minerals is to eat a healthy, balanced diet with a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, and this can help protect against cancer."

He said that for most healthy people there should be no need to take supplements.

"Some people are advised to take supplements under medical guidance and should talk to their doctor if they are worried," he added.

Coffee mooted as a breast cancer preventer

Women who drink lots of coffee may cut their risk of developing one type of breast cancer, according to a new study, but experts are urging caution.

The Karolinska Institute findings are based on nearly 6,000 women and suggest drinking more than five cups a day halves a woman's risk.

But cancer experts say the evidence is not proof enough and women should instead focus on leading a healthy lifestyle to cut their cancer odds.

They say the findings need confirming.

The Swedish researchers are now doing more studies to dig deeper into the coffee question.

Their initial findings suggest that coffee cuts the risk of an aggressive form of breast cancer called oestrogen-receptor negative breast cancer.
Aggressive cancer

Around one in four women diagnosed with breast cancer will have oestrogen-receptor negative breast cancer, which is often resilient to drug treatment and requires intensive chemotherapy.

This study does not provide firm evidence that drinking lots of coffee can help reduce the risk of breast cancer as it relied on people with cancer remembering how much coffee they drank years ago”

End Quote Yinka Ebo of Cancer Research UK

In the study, published in BioMed Central's open access journal Breast Cancer Research, post-menopausal women with and without breast cancer were asked about lifestyle factors and coffee consumption.

The findings revealed the association between higher coffee intake and lower risk of breast cancer.

Research Professor Per Hall said: "We were surprised. But the result was clear. When we looked more closely the more aggressive form of cancer - the oestrogen-receptor negative - was reduced by over half, meaning half as many women who drank lots of coffee were diagnosed with this cancer."

But he said what is not clear is why coffee might be having this effect.

"We just don't know what might be behind this association. There are so many different compounds in coffee that it could be any one of them that could be having an effect."

The other problem is the study rests on the women reliably recalling how much coffee they drink, and there is no record of what type of coffee they consumed - espressos, cappuccinos or decaf?

Until more work is done, Professor Hall says he would not advise women to up their coffee consumption, especially since too much coffee can have side effects.

Yinka Ebo of Cancer Research UK, said: "This study does not provide firm evidence that drinking lots of coffee can help reduce the risk of breast cancer as it relied on people with cancer remembering how much coffee they drank years ago.

"Previous research on coffee consumption and breast cancer risk has produced mixed results, and the authors of this new study acknowledge that further work will be needed to confirm the findings."

He said there was good evidence, however, that women who are physically active, consume little or no alcohol and keep a healthy weight after the menopause are at lower risk of breast cancer.
